Precision Inspection & Positioning (PIP)
With the wider availability of low cost computing power and CCD enabled cameras, industrial applications of vision technology are growing. We have delivered several solutions, for fully- or semi-automatic 3D shape measurements. Measurement results were used for accurate positioning or defect detection.
Our recent projects are:
- Roughness and Flatness Inspection on support frame (semiconductor industry)
Lithographic machines in the semiconductor industry are placed on support frames. These frames are made of a steel carriers and high precision concrete. Flatness and roughness are key parameters for the quality of these frames. MECAL have delivered the system (hardware and software) for measuring the flatness, with a threshold of 0.1 mm on a 4 x 4 metres area.
- 3D Component Defect Inspection
MECAL has delivered a system for continuous automated inspection of cast parts that are used in car engines, for a customer in the automotive industry. The cast parts have various forms with dimensions of up to 50 x 50 mm. and are presented randomly to the inspection system.
Camera and illumination were developed to meet workshop conditions. Together with the quality department of our customer, we defined the image and learning database, and developed and tested good/fault recognition algorithms, which resulted in the capability to detect deviations measured dimensions of 5 micron and larger. The system is integrated in our customer’s quality process.
- Optical Precision Scanner
Together with competence partners we developed an optical precision scanner, which is capable of measuring the surface of a 2x2 metres flat object at 0.01 mm accuraty levels. This development is supported by subsidies and shall soon result in a measurement system, which will be used in applications where tolerances of CNC-milling procedures will have to be verified.
