Medical Optics
We provide support in product development and prototyping realisation for scanning systems in use by medical practitioners. At present, we are developing a precision scanner and a pre-diagnostics device for the human eye.
Our recent projects are:
- Cornea Topographer
Improvement and industrialisation of a cornea topographer. We have developed the optics and the software algorithm for a device capable of measuring 200,000 point at a circular surface 20mm in diameter of the cornea of the human eye. The device plays an important role in the design of high-end scleral contact lenses and eye surgery, because it represents the cornea topography with higher accuracy than currently available systems, like the Placido meter.
The system presents a topographic eye layout for diagnosis by the ophthalmologist and output data for further use by lens manufacturers for the production of lenses. The development is done together with a specialised industrial designer and the first prototype series are to be expected at the end of the year 2009.
- 3Nethra – Eye Scan and Pre-diagnosis
The third eye of the Indian God Shiva is the name for the eye scanner and pre-diagnosis system that we developed in close cooperation with Indian technology partners. In India, reaching out to the poor with easy-to-use, high quality, low cost medical scanners is a driver for the development of medical instruments. 3Nethra will be a system combining four eye examination functions and will serve the purpose of early and easy eye disease detection. Smart optical design in combination with robust software engineering, shall result in the patients retina and cornea images being quickly analyzed and diagnosed for further treatment.
This project is being developed together with Forus Health Pvt. Ltd of Banaglore and with the support of Aravind Eye Care in Madurai.
