Cornea Topographer: an opto-mechatronic system by MECAL
MECAL developed an opto-mechatronic system for measuring the cornea of a human eye, the “Cornea Topographer”. Accurate surface- and height information is required for the development op patient specific contact lenses. Today’s topographers are limited by their resolution and measuring range. The Cornea Topographer is capable of constructing surface- and height maps based on 400.000 points on the cornea, up to a diameter of 22 mm.
During development, MECAL worked with several knowledge partners. The University of Maastricht in the Netherlands validated the medical principles and specialized contact lens designers defined the numerical data that is required from the surface- and height maps.
